NEWS: Congressman Greg Casar on Trump-Appointed Texas Judge’s Anti-Abortion Ruling

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Greg Casar (D-Texas) releases the following statement on Trump-appointed Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk’s anti-abortion ruling out of Texas:
“This is a horrific ruling,” said Greg Casar (D-Texas). “Medication abortion is how the majority of people get abortion care in this country, and this Trump-appointed judge has used his position to attack a safe, effective, FDA-approved medication that’s been used for decades.
“This ruling is far from legitimate, but it could have major consequences if it’s allowed to stand. Texas women are already traveling hundreds of miles to get the care they need under the state’s total abortion ban. People’s lives and freedoms are being attacked by the far right, and the Biden Administration and Congress must ensure abortion rights are fully restored across the country.”
The judge’s decision will not go into effect for seven days.
Casar is a co-sponsor of H.R.767, the Protecting Access to Medication Abortion Act of 2023, which would preserve access to abortion medications, and H.R.12, the Women’s Health Protection Act.
