NEWS: Congressman Greg Casar on Election of Speaker Mike Johnson

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Greg Casar (D-Texas) released the following statement after the election of extremist Speaker of the House Mike Johnson:
“Three weeks ago, Republicans shut down the U.S. House so they could fire Kevin McCarthy, who supported overturning the 2020 election and a nationwide abortion ban. Today, they returned to elect Mike Johnson, the chief architect of plans to overturn the 2020 election — and one of the most radical, anti-abortion voices in Congress.
“Democrats will continue to stand united against the right-wing extremists pushing our government into unprecedented dysfunction and chaos. For Republicans, breaking our government isn’t the problem: it’s the point.
“Whether it’s Mike Johnson, Kevin McCarthy, or any other right-wing extremist sitting in the Speaker’s chair, Democrats in Congress will continue fighting to make progress on issues that matter to working Americans.”
