NEWS: Congressman Greg Casar on Democrats’ Victory in Voting To Avert a Republican Shutdown

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Greg Casar (D-Texas) releases the following statement on House Democrats’ victory of winning a vote to avert a Republican shutdown.
“Today, Democrats in the House successfully beat back the right-wing extremists who were trying to shut down government services for millions of Texans. This was a huge win for working families across the country, thanks to the unity of the Democratic caucus and the persistent advocacy of progressive Democrats.
“Virtually all Democrats united to pass a Clean Continuing Resolution– no cuts, no layoffs, and no shutdown. We averted a disaster, but only because of Democrats’ commitment to protect the American people.
“Republicans were in chaos until the final moments before this vote. Republican Speaker McCarthy took us to the brink of a government shutdown at the behest of his most extreme members like Marjorie Taylor Greene, but we made sure that common sense won the day instead.
“Now, we have 45 days to stop a Republican shutdown – again. Democrats will continue to protect working families against extreme Republicans’ continued threats to cut Social Security, slash public school funding, and criminalize abortion care nationwide.”
