NEWS: Congressman Greg Casar Appointed to Oversight & Accountability; Agriculture Committees

Oversight; Agriculture Committees will be among the most-watched this year.
WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Greg Casar was appointed by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to the Committee on Oversight and Accountability and the Committee on Agriculture for the 118th Congress.
“I will fight for working Texans and our democracy every day on these critical committees,” said Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas). “On Oversight, we’ll work to protect workers from bad corporations and hold Trump’s crew of conspiracy theorists accountable. On Agriculture, we’ll work to keep Texans fed and support family farms and farmworkers. Let’s get to work!”
These committees were among Casar’s first choices because of their important responsibilities:
- The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It has authority to investigate the subjects within the Committee’s legislative jurisdiction as well as any matter within the jurisdiction of the other standing House Committees, and has the ability to increase worker protections and hold Trump associates accountable.
- The Committee on Agriculture is empowered with legislative oversight relating to the U.S. agriculture industry, forestry, nutrition, and rural development, including SNAP benefits, school meals, and protections for farm workers. This year, the committee will take up the omnibus Farm Bill, a multi-year law that governs a wide variety of agricultural and food programs.
