NEWS: Congressman Greg Casar Applauds President Biden’s Announcement for Mixed-Status Families and Dreamers

June 18, 2024

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Greg Casar (D-Texas) released the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s anticipated announcement of protections for undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens and a faster process for Dreamers to obtain work visas.

The executive action will provide work permits, deportation protection, and permanent residency to undocumented spouses who have lived in the country for at least 10 years and their noncitizen children. By adjusting their status through a “parole in place” program, President Biden’s action could provide stability to around 500,000 eligible families.

“President Biden is bringing stability to hundreds of thousands of American families who could otherwise be torn apart by our broken immigration system,” said Congressman Greg Casar (D-Texas). “Along with so many others, I have been calling on President Biden to make our immigration system more humane, and today, he is answering that call by keeping families together and providing immigrants permits for work instead of continued fear and exclusion.

“Our country will be safer and more prosperous for everyone — immigrants and native-born alike — because of the work permits and pro-family policies in this executive order.”
