NEWS: Congressman Greg Casar Delivers $980K+ Federal Investment in City of San Marcos’s Pedestrian Connections

August 13, 2024

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Today, Congressman Greg Casar (D-Texas) presented the City of San Marcos with a more than $980,000 check to connect the east and west sides of the city, which will help students get to school safely while walking or biking on a new pathway.

“Today, we’re one step closer to connecting the east and west sides of San Marcos,” said Congressman Greg Casar (D-Texas). “No matter which part of town you live in, working families should be able to walk along the river, bike to work, or enjoy our parks. My office will continue to invest in infrastructure for all of our communities.”

“We are thankful for Congressman Casar’s support in helping us make the San Marcos Shared Use Pathway a reality,” said San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson. “This project is a significant step toward fulfilling our community’s vision of a more accessible and inclusive San Marcos.”

“The pathway will be a vital part of our community, helping to support not just the movement of people but also the vibrancy and growth of our city,” said San Marcos City Manager Stephanie Reyes. “This is the kind of progress that brings us closer together, and I’m thrilled to see it become a reality.”

The federal funding was made possible through the Community Project Funding process for the Fiscal Year 2024 spending bills. The City of San Marcos applied for the grant through Casar’s office last year. It was approved in the first round of the appropriations government funding packages that passed the U.S. House on March 6 and signed by President Joe Biden on March 9, 2024.
